Edward Francis Twining, Baron Twining (1949 to 1958 known as Sir Edward Twining , born June 29, 1899 in London , † June 21, 1967 there ), was a British diplomat and governor of British North Borneo and Tanganyika .

Life

Twining was a member of the famous tea merchant family Twining and came in London's Marylebone to the world. In the Irish War of Independence he served as an officer in the rank group of the lieutenant in the Worcestershire Regiment and was made a member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) on the occasion of the capture of Éamon de Valeras .

He served as a colonial official in Uganda and Mauritius and was Commissioner of St. Lucia from 1944 to 1946 .

On May 5, 1949, he became governor and commander-in-chief of North Borneo and was then governor of Tanganyika from June 18, 1949 to June 1958. He died in Westminster, London .

On January 1, 1949 he was knighted as Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) and on January 1, 1953 to the Knight Grand Cross (GCMG) of the same order. On August 22, 1958, he was raised as Baron Twining , of Tanganyika and of Godalming in the County of Surrey , to the Life Peer and was a member of the House of Lords for life .
