Lieutenant

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The lieutenants form a rank group in the Bundeswehr .

The rank group includes the lowest ranking officer ranks , including the lieutenant , who gives the rank group its name.

Ranks

The ranks of the Bundeswehr are determined by the Federal President with the order of the Federal President on the rank designations and the uniform of the soldiers on the basis of the Soldiers Act . The rank group of Leutnante includes according to the central service provision (ZDv) A-1420/24 "ranks and rank groups" all lowest-ranking officer ranks to Lieutenant (for Heeres- and Air Force Uniform ) or Lieutenant (for Marine Uniform ).

The following table summarizes all ranks belonging to the rank group of the lieutenant. The left column names the ranks for army and air force uniform wearers, the second the ranks for naval uniform wearers. The table also shows the corresponding NATO rank code , the  general abbreviations defined in accordance with " ZDv 64/10 - Abbreviations in the Bundeswehr", as well as the abbreviations in lists and the salary group for professional and temporary soldiers according to the federal pay regulations .

Authority to command and positions

Soldiers of the rank group lieutenants can issue orders to soldiers of the rank group men , NCOs without porters and NCOs with porters on the basis of § 4 ("Superiors relationship based on the rank") of the Superiors Ordinance within the limits set there .

As a rule, the soldiers of the rank group of the lieutenant are still in training, which differs slightly according to their part of the armed forces, their organizational area and their career according to the soldiers' career regulations . If lieutenants are deployed in one of the careers of the troop service in the troop (i.e. either after completing their officer and troop -specific training or in troop internships ), they serve as military leaders in positions as platoon commander , company operations officer , aircraft commander or (rarely) also as company commander and as Group leaders in special assignments (in these cases captains are usually platoon leaders). Officers of the military professional service of this rank group are often used in departments that deal with technical issues of Armor -, logistics and - personnel planning , the material testing or methods of material conservation concern. Due to the described and similar positions, the vast majority of officers of this rank group can issue orders to all officially or professionally subordinate soldiers in the cases listed in the Superiors Ordinance. Company commanders are unit commanders and therefore disciplinary superiors of the soldiers subordinate to them in accordance with the military disciplinary code .

Appointment and remuneration

Relevant legal basis for the appointment to one of the ranks of the rank group of the lieutenant is the Soldier Career Ordinance (SLV) and in addition the Central Service Regulations (ZDv) 20/7. Professional soldiers , temporary soldiers and reservists can be appointed to a corresponding rank . A prerequisite for appointment to one of the ranks of the rank group of the lieutenant is membership of one of the career paths of the career group of officers . A direct recruitment with a rank of the rank group of the lieutenant is possible with appropriate suitability. Most of the lieutenants had previously served in the rank of senior ensign (reservists usually deviating from ensign ). The rank can then usually be achieved after 36 months of service at the earliest. Before being appointed lieutenant, an officer examination must be passed with success. With the appointment of lieutenant, officer candidates become officers . This also applies accordingly to officer candidates in the careers of the medical and military music service who regularly only achieve the rank of lieutenant or lieutenant in this rank group and remain medical and military music officer candidates while they belong to the rank group of the lieutenant .

Soldiers of the rank group of Leutnante be dependent on the grade according to the Federal pay regulation (BBesO) with A9 to A10 remunerated .

Rank badge

The rank badge of the lieutenant in army uniform shows one or two stars as a shoulder badge ; Navy uniform bearers of the rank group display one or two medium- width sleeve stripes on both lower sleeves .

Headgear

The visor of the Leutnante (and also the main people and upper ensigns (sea)) shows a 0.7 cm wide, stumpfgezackten , extending at the screen edge, for military and air Uniform silver-colored (for Marine Uniform gold ), from metal fabrication hand stitched strip . Since the shape and color of the embroidery on the visor of a navy officer can evoke associations with the edge of a well-known butter biscuit , this embroidery is also jokingly referred to as the "biscuit edge".

Equivalent rank groups

The ranks of the rank group of the lieutenant are classified with the NATO rank code OF-1. In the Swiss Army , the subaltern officers are comparable.

Use as a collective term

According to the Central Service Regulation (ZDv) A-1420/24, the designation "lieutenant" is determined for the rank group . This is therefore the official collective name for soldiers in the ranks of this rank group. The plural form "lieutenants", which is also grammatically permissible according to the Duden and is more common in civilian terms, is also avoided in the military parlance of the Bundeswehr if instead of the rank group in the sense of the "normal" plural only several soldiers in the rank of lieutenant are meant. Not every context is unclear whether "lieutenants" Now the rank group, several soldiers in the rank of lieutenant or even several soldiers in the ranks lieutenant and lieutenant who in the parlance of the Navy mostly as a "lieutenant" rather than "lieutenant to sea" be addressed, means.

Remarks

  1. a b Note: The Bundeswehr describes all soldiers who wear the uniform of the respective armed forces as army or air force or naval uniform wearers. The term also includes soldiers outside the three armed forces, for example in the armed forces base , cf. Training as reserve officer candidate in military service. Federal Office for Personnel Management of the Bundeswehr (BAPersBw) - The President., March 13, 2014, accessed on March 26, 2014 .
  2. The central service regulation A-1420/24 "Ranks and rank groups" replaces the sections B 185 of the central service regulation 14/5 "Soldiers Act", where the rank groups were previously defined. The text from B 185 ZDv 14/5 was adopted unchanged in ZDv A-1420/24. See The Federal Minister of Defense (Ed.): ZDv 14/5. Soldiers Act . DSK AV110100174, change status July 17, 2008. Bonn August 21, 1978, rank designations in the Bundeswehr, p. B 185 (Not to be confused with the Law on the Legal Status of Soldiers (Soldiers Law) ).
  3. The deadline can be shortened by up to two years, as periods of service in the Bundeswehr before starting officer training (i.e. in other career groups) can be credited to a limited extent. Significantly shorter periods are attached to the minimum period of service of the reserve officer candidates , which must be completed at least partially in military exercises . Reservists are, however, treated on an equal footing with active soldiers insofar as the appointment of an officer cannot be made earlier than with corresponding active officer candidates.
  4. The prospective doctor or pharmacist with the rank of lieutenant is no longer an officer candidate , but is an officer in the medical service . He remains nevertheless still a medical officer candidates and will only provide the transport using a rank of the rank group of captains medical officer .

  6. In ZDv 37/10, in addition to the form of sleeve badges described in the Federal President's order on the rank designations and the uniform of the soldiers , corresponding (i.e. identical) shoulder badges for naval uniform wearers are also described.
