Pollica is an Italian commune with 2284 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Salerno in the Campania region .
Location and dates
Pollica is located 133 km southeast of Naples , 208 km northwest of Cosenza and 79 km south of Salerno . It is located in the hilly, heavily forested region of Cilento and has been part of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park since 1991 . The town center is about 5 km from the coast. The districts and seaside resorts of Acciaroli and Pioppi are located directly on the coast and are members of the Costiera Cilentana . Both beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag . The districts of Cannicchio, Celso and Galdo are inland. The municipality extends over an altitude of 0 to 1,100 m slm from the Tyrrhenian Sea to Monte Stella .
The community is located in earthquake zone 3 (little risk).
The municipality is a member of the Cittàslow , a movement founded in Italy in 1999 to slow down and increase the quality of life in cities through environmental policy, infrastructure policy, urban quality, the appreciation of autochthonous products, hospitality, awareness and quality of the landscape.
The neighboring municipalities are Cannalonga , Castelnuovo Cilento , Ceraso , Gioi , Moio della Civitella , Novi Velia and Salento .
history
Pollica arose in the 8th century a little north of today's town. Until 1410 it belonged to the monastery of the Trinità in Cava de 'Tirreni , which had the place built on its current location. Since the 18th century it was owned by the Capano family as a principality.

politics
Angelo Vassallo ( PD ) was elected mayor for the fourth time in March 2010. Vassallo was shot dead in his car on September 6, 2010 by strangers on the way home. A connection with his engagement against the Camorra is suspected.
