Ascea is a municipality with 5949 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Salerno in the Campania region . It is part of the Comunità Montana Zona del Lambro e del Mingardo .

geography

Since 1991 the place is part of the National Park Cilento and Vallo di Diano and a member of the Costiera Cilentana . The neighboring communities are Casal Velino , Castelnuovo Cilento , Ceraso , Pisciotta and San Mauro la Bruca . Components of the municipality are the villages of Ascea, Marina di Ascea, Mandia, Catona and the ruins of the Greek city of Elea (Roman Velia).

economy

The main source of income is tourism with Marina de Ascea, an almost exclusively tourist resort with a long sandy beach.
