The St. Wendel – Tholey railway line is a former railway line that ran from St. Wendel on a single track through the Bliestal via Bliesen and Oberthal to Tholey . A planned continuation to Lebach did not materialize.

The opening took place on August 3, 1915. Shortly before the Tholey train station , the Wareswald hill had to be undercut with a tunnel.

Passenger traffic between Oberthal and Tholey was stopped on September 23, 1983; the last passenger train between St. Wendel and Oberthal ran on June 1, 1984. The section from Oberthal to Tholey was still served in freight traffic until May 30, 1987 , after which it was shut down and dismantled.

The last users of the remaining St. Wendel – Oberthal section were the Saarfeldspar works , which operate a quarry near Güdesweiler , until January 31, 1995 . A separate siding was maintained for the feldspar mill located in the immediate vicinity of Oberthal train station.

After the final closure on December 1, 1996 and the dismantling of the remaining section in 2002, a cycling and hiking path was laid out on the entire route from St. Wendel to the north portal of the Varus tunnel .
