Bliestaldom Bliesen

The parish church of St. Remigius , built in the neo-Romanesque style between 1903 and 1904, is often called the "Bliestaldom" because of its exposed location in the upper Bliestal, its size and its optical dominance over the village. It stands in the middle of the old town center of the core settlement of Bliesen and is the landmark of the village. The church was built by the then dean Jakob Backes (1897–1929) according to plans by the Düsseldorf architect Josef Kleesattel . A fortified church and a Roman signal tower are said to have been located on the Kirchberg. It is said that the foundation walls of today's church tower go back to the former signal tower.
