Location of Hoof in Saarland

Hoof is a district of the district town of St. Wendel in the district of the same name in the northeast of Saarland .

geography

Hoof is located about 7 kilometers northeast of St. Wendel and about 4 kilometers south-southeast of Oberkirchen . At the edge it is flowed through by the Oster .

history

Hoof was first mentioned together with Leitersweiler in 1344 as "vom Hofe", in 1413 it was called "vom Hobe" and in 1538 "von dem Hobe". The dialect expression for Hoof, "Hoob", is derived from this. In the Middle Ages, Hoof belonged to the parish of Niederkirchen , which joined the Reformation in 1538 . During the Thirty Years War, Hoof was only inhabited by one person for three years due to the looting of marauding troops in 1635. In 1675 five families lived in the place. In 1675 all of Hoof's buildings were completely destroyed after being pillaged by French troops. Until 1723 the bailiffs of Hunolstein administered Hoof, from 1723 to 1738 the barons of Schorrenburg, after which it belonged to the Duchy of Pfalz-Zweibrücken . In 1800 the French occupation forces established the Mairie Niederkirchen, which was made up of Hoof, Leitersweiler, Marth , Niederkirchen, Saal , Bubach and Osterbrücken . From 1801 to 1813 Hoof belonged to the Republic of France and from 1816 to the Kingdom of Bavaria .

In 1947, Hoof and the other Ostertal communities Osterbrücken , Marth , Saal , Niederkirchen and Bubach (today districts of the district town of St. Wendel ) left the Bavarian-Palatinate district of Kusel after a referendum and moved to the district of St. Wendel in the then autonomous Saarland . The main concern of the Ostertal population was job security for most of the people who work in Saarland. The fears seemed justified, since in 1929 people from the Palatinate were the first to be affected by layoffs in the Saar area, which was then administered by French.

On January 1, 1974, Hoof was incorporated into St. Wendel like other villages in the Ostertal.
