Location of Osterbrücken in Saarland

Osterbrücken is a district and a district of the city of St. Wendel in the St. Wendel district in Saarland .

geography

Osterbrücken lies between Oberkirchen and Niederkirchen in the upper valley of the Oster , which flows into the Blies in Wiebelskirchen .

history

Osterbrücken was first mentioned in 1152 as "Brucca".

The village got its name from a bridge over the Oster. Remember the road connection from the Krottelbacher Loch intersection via Scharmeshöhe and Grügelborn to Rennstraße. This path, which perhaps already existed in pre-Germanic times, crossed the Oster in or near Osterbrücken by means of a ford and later a bridge. References to this connection could be the field names mentioned in 1606 “On the wall next to the old way” and “In der Langenfurt”, both of which can be located immediately north of the town on the Oster. To distinguish it from settlements of the same name (bridges on the Ohmbach, bridges near Birkenfeld, Bliesbrücken / Lothringen), the brook name "Oster" has been put in front since the 17th century.

Since 1816 the place was part of the Bavarian Rhine District . In 1947, Osterbrücken and the other Ostertal communities of Hoof , Marth , Saal , Niederkirchen and Bubach (today districts of the district town of St. Wendel ) left the Bavarian-Palatinate district of Kusel after a referendum and moved to the district of St. Wendel in the then autonomous Saarland . The main concern of the Ostertal population was job security for most of the people who work in Saarland. The fears seemed justified, since in 1929 people from the Palatinate were the first to be affected by layoffs in the Saar area, which was then administered by French.

The town came to the city of St. Wendel through the regional reform of 1974 .

Economy and Infrastructure

State road 122 runs through the village, and the village is also connected to the Ostertalbahn . The federal motorway 62 can be reached via the Freisen and Konken junctions 6 km away .
