Canton of Tholey
The canton Tholey ( French : canton de Tholey ) was a canton in the French department of Moselle , which existed until 1814 .
history
The former Ballei Schaumburg initially consisted of two cantons, later of one, namely the canton Tholey in the Saarlouis district . In 1801 this canton came to the Arrondissement of Thionville . It consisted of 23 parishes and had 5716 inhabitants.
In 1789, all but three of the communities in the canton of Tholey belonged to the Duchy of Pfalz-Zweibrücken . They came to the Moselle department by decree of the National Convention on February 14, 1793 .
In the First Peace of Paris in 1814 , France had to cede part of the Moselle department to the allied Prussians and Austrians. When the negotiations at the Congress of Vienna were concluded , the canton of Tholey was initially assigned to Austria. It was only the negotiations leading up to the Second Peace of Paris that led to the Prussian-Austrian agreement that Tholey and other areas would be transferred to the Kingdom of Prussia , which was then completed on July 1, 1816.
