Thalexweiler is a district of Lebach in the Saarlouis district in Saarland . Until the end of 1973 Thalexweiler was an independent municipality.

location

The place is in central Saarland in the Theeltal .

history

In the past, the social structure was essentially shaped by agriculture and the coal and steel industry. Until the 1970s, farming as a sideline was characteristic of village life. The enormous structural change in the coal and steel industry in the last few decades has also resulted in many young people leaving the village to find the center of their lives - often outside the Saarland as well.

In 1902/03 a typhus epidemic struck the place, which was probably spread in particular via the Linnebach inn.

As part of the regional and administrative reform in Saarland , the previously independent municipality of Thalexweiler, which belonged to the district of Ottweiler , was assigned to the municipality of Lebach. The last mayor was Helmut Schneider.

On August 8, 1979, a US Phantom fighter jet crashed from Spangdahlem into the village. Despite the massive damage, only nine people were slightly injured.

St. Albanus Church

The core of today's St. Albanus Church dates from 1784 and is built in the Baroque style. In 1967 the church was expanded, but the architectural style was largely retained. The church tower dates back to the 15th century and is what remains of a previous Gothic church that was on the opposite side of the tower and faced east.
