Bahr al-Jabal ( Arabic بحر الجبل, DMG baḥr al-ǧabal 'mountain river'), also Bahr al-Jabal , is a section of the Nile in South Sudan .
course
As soon as the Albert Nile , coming north from Uganda , has passed the border with South Sudan, it becomes Bahr al-Jabal. At the city of Bur it flows into the large swamp area of the Sudd , where 53 percent of the water evaporates. After leaving the Sudd, the Bahr al-Jabal meets the Bahr al- Ghazal river in Lake No and is from then on referred to as the White Nile , which now flows eastwards.
Hydrometry
The flow rate of the river was measured for 78 years (1905–1983) at the Mongalla gauge in m³ / s.

shipping
This section of the Nile forms the most important traffic connection between Juba and Malakal and is navigable all year round. Drifting reed belts and water hyacinths are a problem for shipping .
