The Max-Planck-Gymnasium Saarlouis is a mathematical and scientific high school in Saarlouis .

history

On April 27, 1965, the State Advanced High School Saarlouis was founded. In 1968 a school building was built on the Choisy sports ground. In 1971 the main building was expanded by 6 classrooms. The conversion into a normal grammar school with a mathematical and scientific orientation followed in 1975. The school was renamed after the famous quantum physicist Max Planck . 1974/75 Construction of an additional building (new building) with 14 additional classrooms, half of which were still used by the girls' high school. It was renamed State Max Planck Gymnasium . 1982–1985 the buildings were extensively renovated (cost of 2.8 million DM). 1988 Construction of the new gym. The transition from the grammar school to the responsibility of the Saarlouis district took place in 1992. The name changed to: Max-Planck-Gymnasium Saarlouis, Gymnasium of the Saarlouis district .

Language sequence

English and French are available as first foreign languages ​​in grade 5; the other becomes a second foreign language from year 6 onwards. In addition, since 2000 there has been the option of an English plus branch, in which some subjects are taught bilingually. Instead of a third foreign language, physics or, since 2010, computer science becomes the main subject during the intermediate level. From grade 10 onwards, Spanish, Italian and Latin are optional.

The school offers optional afternoon care. With around 1300 students and around 100 teachers, it is the largest grammar school in Saarlouis.

The school consists of 6 buildings:

The school has three chemistry, biology and physics rooms, one of which is a "step room", as well as three computer rooms, a film room, two music rooms and three art rooms.

Rudolf Schmitt Foundation

The Rudolf Schmitt Foundation, founded in August 2003 in memory of the former deputy headmaster Rudolf Schmitt, is the first Saarland foundation to support a public school. The founder is Helene Schmitt, Rudolf Schmitt's sister, and the foundation's assets are currently EUR 380,000. The interest is used to support "teaching-related and educational activities"; the foundation's assets may not be touched. Through regular donations from the founder, the grammar school received a total of € 51,000 from the foundation in 2006. The foundation's board of directors, consisting of the director (chairman), the founder (deputy chairwoman) and Hanneliese Greuling, decides on the use of the funds, provided that the amount of 4000 € is not exceeded in individual cases.

robotics

A voluntary robotics working group has also been offered for several years. The school has a specially prepared robotics room. The teams compete at regional, national and international level. One of the greatest successes was winning the World Cup in the RoboCup Junior Soccer 2on2, but also several awards from the First Lego League . The working group is also represented at numerous official events in the Saarland and various business associations, for example at the Empower Germany Congress.

The Mission Possible Reloaded team from the Robots in Schools initiative won the RoboCup Junior Soccer 2on2 world championship at RoboCup 2005.

In 2005, grade 6e successfully took part in the quiz show " We test the best " on the KIKA station .
