Bainoceratops is a little-known genus of the bird's dinosaur (Ornithischia) from the group of Ceratopsia , possibly from the family of Protoceratopsidae .

From bainoceratops only a number of are far vertebrae known. These do not allow any conclusions to be drawn about the appearance of the animal, but about the systematic position. According to the first description, Bainoceratops differs from the Protoceratops which is common in the area and is likely to be closely related to Udanoceratops .

The fossil remains were found in the Djadochta formation in the Gobi desert in southern Mongolia and were first described in 2003 . The type species and only known species is B. efremovi . The finds are dated in the Upper Cretaceous (early Santonium to Lower Campanian ) to an age of approx. 85 to 81 million years.

Since Udanoceratops - the much better preserved close relative of Bainoceratops - combines the characteristics of different groups of dinosaurs, it is controversial whether it belongs to the Protoceratopsidae or Leptoceratopsidae . In its wake, the affiliation of Bainoceratops is also unclear. The first descriptors counted him among the Protoceratopsidae.
