The Bavarian Diatonic Jodelwahnsinn (sometimes abbreviated as BDJW ) has been a Bavarian music and cabaret group since 1986 in the field of traditional Bavarian folk music and new folk music .

Band history

Emergence

The origins of the Bavarian diatonic yodel madness are already in 1986, when from Munich - Giesing originating Otto Göttler teamed up with one another to four musicians as a music band with bizarre, but also politically critical texts. They played on various cabaret stages, district festivals and in inns, but also at political events such as the anti- WAA initiative or an election campaign tour of the SPD .

The group began to reorganize in 1991 when Otto Göttler met the music student Monika Drasch . In 1992 the music teacher Josef Brustmann joined the group, who became a permanent member in 1993. In this combination the three ten years played and sang together.

successes

Larger circles first became aware of the Bavarian diatonic yodel madness at a tollwood festival . Her instruments included violin, bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy, zither, gemshorn, saxophone, singing saw, tuba, tenor horn, timpani, harmonica, concertina, ocarina, ukulele, guitar, "pan tare" (a slightly modified frying pan), alphorn, harp, cello , and Bandoneon the diatonic accordion , whose importance for the music of the Bavarian Diatonic Jodelwahnsinn can already be seen from its somewhat strange name. The group was just as diverse in their music, which included elements of blues, rap and rock or classical music, from the Bavarian Gstanzl tradition to Zwiefachen . With their artistic way of combining appropriately arranged melodies of traditional Bavarian folk music with often cheeky, subversive, slightly anarchistic, but also beautiful poetic texts in a way that had not been heard before, they achieved a stunning impression with the audience and won a large fan base among the Friends of new folk music and music cabaret.

Dissolution and a new beginning

Appearance at the Bardentreffen in Nuremberg in 2015

In 2002 the group disbanded and the members went their own way. Since 2014, the formation has been performing again with new partners under the direction of Otto Göttler.

Quotes

About the Bavarian Diatonic Jodelwahnsinn
Music and lyrics that just grab you, even if your head is still completely different ... Anarcho folk music used to be on the stamp of the troupe, and evidently there was little reason to change anything for the yodelling madness reloaded.
Süddeutsche Zeitung from April 24, 2015
Everything is served like sweet mustard on the Munich white sausage, with a special class of thickly coated humor. Loud, cheeky, weird, sometimes rough, they use their instruments with virtuosity and leave a lot of Bavarian sympathy.
