Bajaga i Instruktori is a Serbian rock group. Momčilo Bajagić Bajaga (singer, guitarist and songwriter of the band) started the band in 1984 in Belgrade , then still the capital of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia , initially to publish his solo works, later as the sole band.

Band history

Momčilo Bajagić Bajaga was the guitarist of the hard rock band Riblja čorba . He was also active as a songwriter for the group, but wrote some hits as well as songs that were more pop-oriented or funnier and did not fit Riblja Čorba. Together with singer Dejan Cukić (ex-Dizel, Tilt and Bulevar, journalist for Rock magazine), bassist Miroslav "Cvele" Cvetković (ex-Tilt, Pop Mašina and Papatra), guitarist Nenad Stamatović (ex-Tilt, Zebra, Suncokret and Bulevar) and drummer Vladimir Golubović (ex-Tilt and Suncokret, at that time session drummer with Riblja Čorba) he formed a band for his first solo album. The album was released in 1984 under the title Pozitivna geografija and was a veritable success. On April 12, 1984 he performed for the first time with his at Club Kulušić in Zagreb . Three days later the band appeared for the first time as “Bajaga i Instruktori”, which has been their permanent band name ever since. The success of the solo album brought conflicts with his main band at the time, and from July 19, 1984 Riblja čorba and Momčilo Bajagić went their separate ways. Supported by the rock magazine that Bajaga awarded as Musician of the Year and Pozitivna geografija as Album of the Year, it was decided to let the project continue.

In 1985 the second album Sa druge strane jastuka was released and thus the first under the official band name. With Žika Milenković, a second singer (and later guitarist) joined the group. The album sold excellently in communist Yugoslavia and a subsequent tour went very well. Jahači magle followed in 1986 . In addition, a cover of the Beatles song All You Need Is Love was released as a 7 '' single, which was given as a supplement to Rock magazine. This was followed by a tour of the Soviet Union . In 1987 Cukić got out. In the same year he had released his successful solo album Spori Ritam and has now formed his own group, the Spori Ritam Band .

On the fourth album Prodavnica tajni therefore Bajaga took over the vocals for the first time. Bajaga wrote the songs for the album while on vacation in Thailand. the album was first recorded in the studios of Radio Novi Sad .

In 1991 the extended play Četiri godišnja doba was released . Opera singer Jadranka Jovanović was a guest on the album. The band remained active despite the outbreak of the Yugoslav Wars and continued to perform live. During this period of upheaval they even managed to release another album in 1993 with Muzika na struju . The band released some anti-war songs there and also performed at the 1991 protests in Terazije . In 1994, however, the band broke up briefly after Bajaga got into an argument with Stamatović and Golubović.

In 1996 there was a reunification. In addition to Milenković, Cvetković and Lokner, guitarist Vlada Negovanović (ex-Butik, Doktor Spira i Ljudska Bića, Slađana Milošević and Tunel) and drummer Čeda Macura (ex- Neverne Bebe , Viktorija, Legija and Revolveri) joined the band. In 1997 the reunion album Od bižuterije do ćilibara was released . In the same year the compilation Neizbrisano was released .

In 2001 Ljubiša "Buba" Opačić joined the band and Bajaga i Instruktori released the album Zmaj od Noćaja . With Da li da ili ne odem there was a Serb cover of The Clash -Klassikers Should I Stay or Should I Go on the album. A year later, the live compilation Best of Live followed and in 2003 the compilation Ruža vetrova Beograda with songs inspired by Belgrade.

In 2005 the next album Šou počinje u ponoć was released . Pesma slobod is a cover of the song Redemption Song , originally by Bob Marley . In 2008 guitarist Opačić died unexpectedly after a concert in a hotel in Maribor . Marko Nježić (ex-Vroom) joined the band for him. In 2009, on the occasion of their 25th anniversary, the band played three concerts in the Sava Centar in Belgrade.

In 2010 the box set Antologija was released with remastered versions of the first four albums. In 2012 the band's last studio album, Daljina, dim i prašina, was released.
