The Bakhallet ( Norwegian for back wall ) is an icy steep slope in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It lies between the Sauterriegel and the Brugda ridge in Gjelsvikfjella .
The first aerial photographs of the steep slope were taken during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . Norwegian cartographers, who also named it, carried out a mapping based on aerial photographs and surveys of the Norwegian-British-Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1949–1952) and aerial photographs of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960).
