The Bakoma SA is one of the largest private dairy producer in Poland and one of the ten largest dairy companies in Poland. After Danone and Zott , Bakoma is the third largest supplier of yoghurt products in Poland. The company is based in Warsaw in the Masovian Voivodeship .

history

Bakoma was founded in 1989, the name was created by putting together letters from the names Ba rbara Ko morowska and Edward Ma zur. Barbara Komorowska is the wife of the main shareholder Zbigniew Komorowski; Edward Mazur was a minority shareholder when the company was founded. In the first few years the company's business was growing onions and processing fruits and vegetables. Products were mainly exported. It was not until 1992 that yogurt production began. The German company Onken was won as a license and know-how partner . This cooperation was ended in 1995 in a dispute.

In 1997, the previous GmbH was renamed a stock corporation and from 1998 to May 2001 the shares were listed on the stock exchange. In 1999 Edward Mazur sold his shares to Danone, which later sold the shares again. As far as known, the company was partly renamed a GmbH. Today the company's shares are only held by physical persons.

On March 17, 2010, the company moved its headquarters from Elżbietów to Warsaw. Production continues in Elżbietów. After Poland joined the EU in 2004, Bakoma built up a sales network abroad. Bakoma products are mainly sold in the United States, England, Ireland, Portugal, Slovakia, Hungary, Lithuania and Estonia. Bakoma's best-known brands are “Premium Frutica” (fruit yogurts), “Twist” (drinking yogurts), “7 zbóż” (cereal yogurts) and “Bakuś” (children's products). From 1996 to 1998 Bakoma was the shirt sponsor of the Polish football club Widzew Łódź .

Bakoma is now a diversified group that also includes Polskie Młyny SA (a flour producer with production facilities in Brzeg , Teresin and Bydgoszcz ) and Biotanol SA (a producer of bio-fuels).
