history

Anna and Balthasar Reiter bought a country dairy in Mertingen in Bavaria and Swabia in 1926. When Balthasar Reiter died in 1938, Anna Reiter was the second wife of Georg Zott, who gave the company its name. In the 1950s, their son Georg Reiter and his wife Frieda continued to run the dairy.

In 1972 a new dairy with its own fruit kitchen was built in Mertingen, as the capacity limits of the main factory had been reached. In the same year, Zott took over the Bavarian Hans Schweyer dairy in Günzburg. In the 1980s, under the management of the third generation of the family with Christine and Georg Reiter, Zoma was founded and milk powder production for the processing industry started with a new drying system. In addition, the company's own bucket elevator started operations.

In the 1990s, Zott opened up the new federal states and neighboring states to the east. Long-lasting products were delivered until a consistently cooled distribution was successful. Opened in the following years Zott sales offices in Czechoslovakia (1991), now Slovakia , the Polish Wroclaw (1992), in the Czech Republic and Hungary (2002). After the gradual commissioning of individual production areas at the end of the 1980s, the new production plant "Plant 2", including its own fruit kitchen, was inaugurated on Bäumenheimer Strasse in Mertingen in the spring of 1993. In 1999, Zott signed the contract for the acquisition of the first foreign production facility in Opole, Poland. Production began after renovation and expansion measures in the spring of 2000. In 2009 the new development and quality center was opened in Mertingen.

In 2012, Zott took over the majority stake in the newly founded dairy in Gradačac . In the same year, the company also acquired a production facility in Racibórz, Poland . Against the background of the international orientation of the dairy, the legal form was changed to “Zott SE & Co. KG” in 2013. In 2015, Zott closed the factory in Racibórz and also left the majority stake in the dairy in Gradačac to a domestic investor.

In 2017, Zott took over the long-standing Vietnamese importer and distributor Delys Vietnam . Zott is building its own plant at the Mertingen location for Monte snack production.

criticism

The Goldener Puff 2010 award from the consumer organization Foodwatch went to the dairy product Monte Drink , which the company had previously advertised on its website as the “ideal companion for school and leisure”. A subsequent redesign of the product and presentation was again described by Foodwatch as a "deception offensive".
