The Bal des Débutantes in Paris, also simply abbreviated to le Bal , is an annual high society event to which 20 to 25 girls between the ages of 16 and 22, who come from around a dozen countries, are invited.

The ball was founded by Ophélie Renouard and took place for the first time on September 27, 1992. The young women wear dresses by haute couture and fashion designers as well as foreign fashion houses. They all wear jewelry from the same jeweler. The debutantes generally come from famous families known for their contributions to art, politics, economics, and more.

The event raises money for one or more charities while celebrating the French way of life. Since 2009 the ball has supported the organization Children of Asia, which takes care of education for girls in Southeast Asia. In 2015 the Seleni Institute was also supported.

In 2005 Forbes magazine named the ball one of the ten hottest parties in the world.

procedure

Planning and preparation include inviting the debutantes and their cavaliers , as well as meeting the debutants and their families.

From 1992 to 2012 the ball took place at the Hôtel de Crillon . The Hôtel Raphael was the location of the ball in 2013 and 2014, and in 2015 the event was held in the Palais de Chaillot , with a view of the Eiffel Tower . The ball's partner hotel for 2016 was The Peninsula Paris hotel .

On Friday, the day before the ball, the debutantes meet for the first time. The makeup and hairstyling sessions start at 9 a.m. The rest of the day is spent putting on the clothes, shoes and jewelry, as well as the individual photos and group photos. On Friday evening the fathers of the debutantes as well as the cavaliers take part in a waltz lesson with two dance teachers.

The debutantes are presented at the ball in alphabetical order, hooked in the arms of their cavaliers, by the journalist and author Stéphane Bern . Then the meal is served, followed by the opening dance.

Every year since 2005 there has been a debutante who opened the dance with a waltz , led by her father or the MC of the evening:

• 2012: Sophia Rose Stallone with Sylvester Stallone
• 2013: Kyra Kennedy with Robert Kennedy
• 2014: HRH Princess Elizabeth de Bourbon Parme with HRH Prince Charles-Emmanuel de Bourbon Parme
• 2015: Iman Perez with Vincent Perez and Countess Gloria de Limburg Stirum with Count Thierry de Limburg Stirum
