Balan Ridge (English; Bulgarian хребет Балан chrebet Balan ) is an up to 800 m high mountain ridge on the Alexander I Island west of the Antarctic Peninsula . In the Sofia University Mountains it extends in north-south orientation over a length of 4.5 km and is 1.45 km wide. It is bounded to the east by the Poste Valley , to the north by the Palestrina glacier and to the west by the Josola glacier .
The Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named it in 2009 after the Bulgarian philologist, literary historian and bibliographer Alexandar Teodorow-Balan (1859-1959).
