Alexandar Stojanow Teodorow-Balan ( Bulgarian Александър Стоянов Теодоров-Балан ; born October 15, 1859 in Kubej ; † February 12, 1959 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian philologist , literary historian and bibliographer .

Life

Teodorow-Balan studied Slavic Studies in Leipzig and Prague . From 1893 he was professor and first rector of the Sofia University. He was a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences .

Teodorow-Balan wrote more than 900 scientific papers on linguistic and literary topics and bibliographical questions. He was awarded the Dimitrov Prize . Since 2009 he has given its name to the Balan Ridge , a mountain ridge on the Alexander I Island in Antarctica.
