Balblair is a whiskey distillery in Edderton , Ross-shire , Scotland . The kiln of the distillery is sorted into the Scottish monument lists in the category C.
history
It was founded by John Ross in 1790, making it the second oldest distillery still in operation. The current facility dates from 1872 and was built by Alexander Ross. In 1894 the distillery was sold to Alexander Cowan. The distillery was closed from 1915 to 1947. The new owner, Robert Cumming - who later also owned Pulteney - expanded the distillery. In 1970 he sold them to Hiram Walker , who later merged into Allied Distillers and Allied Domecq . In 1996 the distillery was closed again and sold to Inver House Distillers Ltd. ( Pulteney , Speyburn , Knockdhu and Balmenach ) sold. Whiskey has been produced again since May 1997.

The water of the distillery, which belongs to the Highlands / Northern Highlands region, comes from the Ault Dearg Burn, the malt used is obtained from the Glen Ord Maltings . The distillery has a mash tun ( mash tun ) (4.6 t) made of stainless steel , six fermentation vats ( wash backs ) (22,000 l each) made of Douglas fir , a wash still (19,093 l) and a spirit still (11,044 l), which be heated by steam.
