Balduin Wiesmayr (born May 5, 1889 in Leonding ; † May 17, 1948 ) was an Austrian Cistercian and abbot of Wilhering Abbey .

Life

Balduin Wiesmayr attended elementary school in Leonding (his classmate was Adolf Hitler ), completed his high school studies at the state high school in Linz and then entered Wilhering Abbey. In 1913 he was ordained a priest and worked partly in the monastery as a novice master, partly in pastoral care, especially as a pastor in Theras in Lower Austria and in Gramastetten. After Abbot Bernhard Burgstaller died in custody in the Third Reich, he was elected abbot on November 11, 1941. Since the monastery was occupied by the National Socialists, he stayed in his parish. After the end of the war, he was able to repair the worst damage, but above all to re-establish the collegiate high school. Various structural renovations, which also led to the discovery of Gothic components, were carried out and the 800th anniversary of the monastery was celebrated on September 30, 1946. He died suddenly on May 17, 1948.
