Baldur Schönfelder

Baldur Schönfelder (* 1934 in Hasenthal / Thuringia) is a German sculptor who mainly worked in Berlin . In addition to sculptures , his numerous works also include drawings and installations .

Life

After attending school, Schönfelder completed an apprenticeship as a ceramic modeler from 1949 to 1951 , after which he worked at the State Porcelain Manufactory in Meissen . From 1954 Baldur Schönfelder moved to the Berlin Academy of the Arts , where he became Will Lammert's assistant . In the following year he began studying at the University of Fine and Applied Arts in Berlin-Weißensee . He was a master student of Waldemar Grzimek . He has been running his own studio since 1962 and mainly carried out commissioned work for the Berlin magistrate . From 1979 to 1981 he taught at the Humboldt University and since 1985 he has also been an honorary professor at the Weißenseer Kunsthochschule.

The curators at the Museum Junge Kunst , which houses several of his works, formulate Schönfelder's credo as follows: “The presence of people in the form of their absence”.
