A bale wrapper is a machine used in agriculture . It packs wilted meadow grass , which has previously been pressed into bale form with a baler , airtight in PE film , thus enabling it to ferment into silage .

After wrapping , the bales must be transported without damage using a bale tongs or bale fork.

technology

The device is usually attached to a tractor as a trailer or to the three-point hydraulic system and is driven hydraulically or via the PTO shaft . In the meantime, there are also combination devices that can both press and wrap silo bales.

The main differences are in the winding unit. Many devices move the bale only minimally around an axis. These have movable wrapping units that circle around the bale as a satellite. The video on the right shows the case in which the bale completely circles around 2 axes and the film arm is firmly mounted.

With round bale wrappers in particular, a device is often installed that places the round bales on their front side. A rolling away and the associated damage to the film is prevented.

Process comparison

Compared to other types of storage ( e.g. in a transport, high or hose silo ) there are higher costs for wrapping and a little more transport effort , but bales can be transported at any time and can be used in small batches.

With combined press-and-wrap combinations, the changing table can usually be used as a transport unit. This means that two bales can always be deposited during the pressing process, which in turn has advantages for later collection.
