Dan Ahearn

Dan Ahearn (actually: Daniel William Ahearne ; born April 12, 1888 in Athea , County Limerick , † December 20, 1942 in Chicago , Illinois ) was an American athlete of Irish origin.

Dan Ahearne grew up in Ireland with his older brother Tim Ahearne , triple jump Olympic champion in 1908. Daniel emigrated to the United States in 1909 and deleted the e at the end of his name when he immigrated. Tim Ahearne later followed his brother.

Dan Ahearn won eight Amateur Athletic Union championships in triple jump between 1910 and 1918 . On May 30, 1911, he jumped 15.52 meters in New York. This distance was recognized as the first official world record in the triple jump in 1912.

In 1912 Ahearn was not allowed to start in the Olympic Games because he was not yet a citizen of the United States. At the Olympic Games in 1920 he was sixth with a width of 14.08 meters.

Dan Ahearn was 1.78 m tall and weighed 69 kg during his playing days.
