history

On September 27, 1788, the French balloonist Jean-Pierre Blanchard made his 33rd trip in his free balloon over Berlin. It took off at 3:40 p.m. in a balloon filled with hydrogen gas at the parade ground in the Tiergarten, flew in a north-easterly direction over the Spree and had reached a height of around 1000 meters at the Gesundbrunnen. There he lowered two small dogs on a parachute ; the two landed safely on the floor. At around 4 p.m. it was at an altitude of around 1,920 meters over the Pankow area and landed at 4:30 p.m. on an open field between Buch and Karow, where the new development area of Neu Karow is now.
