Johann Balthasar Lorey

Johann Balthasar Lorey (born June 26, 1799 in Frankfurt am Main ; † February 8, 1869 there ) was a doctor and politician of the Free City of Frankfurt .

Johann Balthasar Lorey was the eldest son of the citizen and master bookbinder Johann Balthasar Lorey. He attended the model school until 1808 and then the grammar school. He had survived the peeling in his childhood , but his health was permanently damaged afterwards. Therefore he did not become a craftsman like his father, but studied medicine at the University of Göttingen from Easter 1816 and from October 1818 at the University of Vienna . On January 8, 1820, Dr. med. PhD. He then worked as a general practitioner in Frankfurt am Main. Cholera appeared in Germany in 1830 . On behalf of the Physikats he traveled to Berlin and Vienna to research the disease and published a paper on it. While his income was low up to now, the number of patients increased with his reputation. From 1833 he also worked as a poor doctor. On March 5, 1846, he became a doctor at the Senckenberg Bürgerhospital and stayed that way for the rest of his life.

He was a long-time member of the physical association . For 29 years he made the astronomical observations that were necessary for regulating the normal clock. The Senate of the Free City of Frankfurt honored the 25 years of activity in 1865 with a gold pocket watch. In 1869 he became an honorary member of the Physical Society. At least 1855/1856 he was chairman.

On October 25, 1848, he was elected to the Constituent Assembly of the Free City of Frankfurt . Later he was also a member of the Legislative Body .
