Balthasar Reber

Balthasar Reber (born December 7, 1805 in Basel ; † March 13, 1875 there ) was a Swiss Reformed clergyman, historian and writer .

Balthasar Reber, son of the businessman Nicolaus Reber, studied philology, history and theology in Berlin and Basel from 1825 to 1830 . After his ordination , he worked as a pastor, then from 1840 as a history teacher. In 1845 he received his doctorate from the University of Basel , where he also completed his habilitation six years later . From 1853 he worked as a teacher at the trade school and from 1855 as an associate professor for Swiss history at the University of Basel. Reber published accounts of Swiss history, namely of the late Middle Ages and the early modern period, but also poems and historical stories.
