Bamberg is a town in the US -amerikanischen State South Carolina . It is the county seat of Bamberg County .
Bamberg is located on Highways 301 , 601 and 78 . Bamberg County Airport is a few kilometers outside the city . The nearest train station is in Denmark, South Carolina, seven miles away .
The history of settlement in the area dates back to before the presence of white settlers. The Edisto , a tribe of the Muskogee , lived here. The name of the city is not derived directly from the German city of Bamberg , but goes back to Major William Seaborn Bamberg , who came to Bamberg around 1840 and whose grandfather was German. Around 1890 the city grew considerably due to the flourishing cotton trade.
