Banco de Fomento Angola (BFA) is an Angolan private bank and the second largest bank in the country.

The bank was founded in 1990 as Banco de Fomento Exterior (BFE) in the capital Luanda . In August 1996, it was taken over 100 percent by the Portuguese Banco Português de Investimento and was renamed Banco de Fomento Angola (BFA).

Currently (as of the end of 2010) the BPI-Bank is the main shareholder with 50.1 percent, the Angolan mobile operator UNITEL with 49.9 percent shares. The chairman of the shareholders' meeting is Rui de Faria Lélis, the managing director is Emídio Pinheiro. Isabel dos Santos is also a board member .

The new headquarters opened in July 2003 in Luanda. It is located on Avenida Amílcar Cabral in Maianga , Luanda . The branch network has been continuously expanded over the past few years. Today the bank has 193 branches across the country, with 86 branches in the capital Luanda alone, five in Cabinda , two in Uíge , three in Benguela , seven in Lobito , three in Huambo and eight in Lubango . The bank has over 750,000 customers and total assets of US $ 6,340 million (as of 2010).

BFA was named the best Angolan bank in 2009 by the British magazine EMEA Finance.

Also in 2009, the BFA received the Straight Through Processing Excellence Award from the Deutsche Bank Trust Company for the eighth time in a row . This was done in recognition of the fact that 99.1 percent of the payment orders are automatically processed by the BFA. The BFA also holds the title Superbrands Angola .
