Baneh ( Kurdish Bane , Persian بانه) is a city in the northwest of the Iranian province of Kordestān. It is also the name of the district (Scharestān) Baneh, which consists of a city and seven rural districts. The district is 794 km². The city of Baneh is surrounded by forests and is 260 km from Sanandaj and only 21 km from the Iraqi border.
According to a 2012 extrapolation, the city has a population of 78,279 people. The population of Baneh is Kurdish . They are Shafiʿites and speak Sorani .
