Banna'a
R. Banna'a (also: Bannaja or Benaja ) was an ancient Jewish scholar from Palestine . He is counted among the fifth generation of Tannaites , who form the transition to the Amorae , and worked in the third century AD.
Halachic as well as Haggadic sayings have survived from him .
He tried to explain internal contradictions of individual Pentateuch sections by saying that the Torah was revealed in roles that were independent of one another (Bab. Gittin 60 a).
His main tradent and at the same time most important student was Jochanan bar Nappacha .
