Baobab (also Disk Usage Analyzer ) is a free program for analyzing the partition or directory structure. The name comes from the baobab trees and is an allusion to the tree characteristics of directory structures .

In Baobab there are two ways to display the directory structure:
One type of display is a pie chart , in which there is a core (gray) that corresponds to the selected directory. Then there is a layer of circular segments that represent the respective direct subdirectories. The second layer contains the circular sections of the subdirectories of the second level. The graphic goes up to the 5th level at most. Unlike WinDirStat or similar programs, Baobab does not display files.
As a second type of display, the current directory can be displayed in a rectangle. Similar to KDirStat, further rectangles are drawn in for the subdirectories and others for the subdirectories in further levels.

Since a partition can be mounted in every directory under Unix-like operating systems , Baobab makes no difference between partitions and directories. This means that any partitions that are integrated in the respective directories are searched. However, there is an option to ignore certain mounted partitions.

Baobab is written in Vala and works with GTK + .

It is installed by default in Ubuntu (as a program to analyze disk usage ) and openSUSE and is part of the gnome-utils .
