history

prehistory

There are first indications of a school in Garitz for the year 1686 in the Garitz "AltWEISum", in which the trunk validity for the school clerk was established. At that time, he originally worked as a craftsman. The school attendance of the students was impaired because they were urgently needed for field and housework. The school situation improved in 1770 with the establishment of the Würzburg teachers' college; Around 1800 compulsory schooling was added for the sixth to twelfth year of life. Initially, the Garitz school system was under church supervision. The first documented teacher in Garitz was Johann Nikolaus Bauer in 1773; his successor was Jörg Hippler (from 1780 to 1827). In 1804 a new school building was built, in which more and more classes were taught.

In 1873 the house of the baker Nikolaus Buscham was bought in today's Baptist-Hoffmann-Strasse number 29, rebuilt in summer and autumn and named "II. School "used.

Today's school building

In 1909, today's school building was built at Baptist-Hofmann-Strasse number 14, in which a four-class elementary school began teaching on October 1, 1910, and where, from 1915, when Garitz became local chaplain, the Garitz chaplain taught catechism ; On January 1, 1915, the spiritual school supervision was replaced by a secular one.

The Art Nouveau school building is a two-storey half - hipped building with an embossed base zone and a dwarf house with a triangular gable . The school building also includes a teacher's house, also in Art Nouveau style, a two-storey hipped roof structure : both buildings are connected by an arcade. The school building also has a fencing that was created at the same time.

In autumn 1915 the students were urgently needed to harvest potatoes and fruit. Under the guidance of their teachers, the students collected waste paper, beechnuts (for oil extraction) and nettles (whose plant fibers were used to make textiles) to alleviate the war-related hardship .

The Garitz gymnasium was built between December 1966 and December 1967 directly adjacent to the school building and is still used as a multi-purpose hall to this day.
