Barão de São Miguel is a village and municipality on the Portuguese south coast, the Algarve .
The municipality is located in the hinterland and is the only municipality in the Vila do Bispo district that has no access to the sea and therefore no beach. It is also the only municipality that does not belong to the Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina .

history
The current place was created after the Reconquista . The oldest building in the village is the baroque parish church from the 16th century.
The independent municipality of Barão de São Miguel was created in 1925 when it was separated from the municipality of Budens .

Barão de São Miguel is the seat of a municipality of the same name ( Freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Vila do Bispo , Faro district . 451 inhabitants live in it on an area of 15 km² (as of June 30, 2011).
