Karl Härringer

Karl Hugo Härringer (* July 23, 1913 in Burkheim am Kaiserstuhl ; † September 30, 2008 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German lawyer who was considered a pioneer in youth welfare and received several high-ranking awards for his professional and voluntary commitment in this area.

Life

Härringer studied law in Freiburg and was a member of the KStV Neuenfels in the KV . After conflicts with the National Socialist SA , he continued his studies in Kiel and Hamburg. He returned as a soldier in 1945 with a serious wound. After the end of the Second World War he became a youth prosecutor at the district court of Freiburg im Breisgau . As the district court director, he was a youth and guardianship judge. In 1978 he retired.

In 1947 he founded the Freiburg youth welfare organization as a youth prosecutor. On October 28, 1953, the Freiburg youth welfare organization was founded as its sponsoring association. Härringer acted as its chairman until 1978. In 1970 he was the founder of the Scientific Institute of the Freiburg Youth Welfare Organization (WI-JHW) at the University of Freiburg .

As early as 1946 he was invited to youth welfare conferences by the occupying powers. In 1949 he held the first international youth welfare conference in Freiburg. In 1951 he founded the German branch of the International Association of Social Educators (AIEJI / VEGJD).

He is the namesake of the Karl-Härringer-Haus of the youth welfare organization . After his retirement in 1978 he founded the Heinrich-Hansjakob-Haus (HHH) in Freiburg, a house for encounters, advice and education for older people, which became a model case nationwide. From Time magazine , he was the "most successful beggars Germany" titled.

In 1954 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Nicola Cardinal Canali and invested in the Freiburg Minster on May 9, 1954 by Lorenz Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy .

Karl Härringer was honored several times, including in 1986 with the Medal of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg and in 1989 with the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. He was awarded the honorary professorship of the state of Baden-Württemberg.
