Barack Church (Neuhütten)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Barackenkirche in Neuhütten , Baden-Württemberg , was a wooden emergency church from the 1950s.

history

The barrack church in Neuhütten goes back to considerations of the Catholic pastor Staudacher from Affaltrach to build a pilgrimage chapel near the source in Weihenbronn in 1946. In 1950, instead of Weihenbronn, Staudacher acquired a 20 acre building site on the northern outskirts of Neuhütten near the Steinknickle . In 1951 he acquired two former barracks of the Reich Labor Service from Neckarsulm , which he converted into emergency churches with space for 120 to 150 believers: one for Neuhütten, the other for Lehrensteinsfeld .

The Neuhüttener Church was consecrated on September 9, 1951 in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, taken into heaven . The walls of the barracks were clad inside with wood fibers, and the choir was spanned by a wooden barrel vault. Part of the barrack had been set up as an apartment for the sacristan's family .

In 1955 the Catholic parish in Neuhütten was changed from Affaltrach to Mainhardt.

In May 1964, the community acquired another building site at the cemetery in Neuhütten, where they built the St. Barbara church in 1969/70 , which replaced the barrack church.
