Barauni is a city in the state of Bihar in eastern India . It is part of the Begusarai district . Barauni has the status of a City Council ( Nagar parishad ). The city is divided into 4 wards .

Demographics

The city's population is 71,660 according to the 2011 census. Barauni has a gender ratio of 893 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus that is usual for India. The literacy rate was 68.8% in 2011. Almost 70% of the population are Muslim , around 30% are Hindus and less than 1% belong to other religions. 17.8% of the population are children under 6 years of age. 7.7% of the population are part of the Scheduled Castes .

Infrastructure

The city has two train stations. The newer of these is one of the most important hubs in Bihar.

economy

The Barauni oil refinery built in cooperation with the Soviet Union for a price of 69.4 billion rupees and went into operation in July 1964.
