Barbara Kanam (born September 27, 1973 in Bukavu , Democratic Republic of the Congo ) is a Congolese musician, record producer and actress.

Life

Barbara Kanam was born one of twelve children. After attending school and training in foreign trade, she started as a singer and composer in the band Devotion in 1991 . She worked on her vocal technique and learned to play the guitar at the Psalmody Academy in Johannesburg , South Africa . In 1994 she toured Central Africa with her Acoustic One Woman Show .

In 1995 she moved to Abidjan , Ivory Coast , where she joined a religious choir and later sang in the Grace Choir in Cocody . In 1997 she resumed her studies in foreign trade.

In 1998 she produced her first album Mokili with Kone Dodo , which gained her attention and fame as well as a nomination for the Kora Awards . She won it with her second album Teti in 2003.

Barbara Kanam produces for her own label. She lives in France and is in a relationship with Awilo Longomba .
