Barbara Patzek

Barbara Patzek (born October 7, 1948 in Usingen / Taunus ) is a German ancient historian .

The daughter of a civil engineer attended the Helene-Lange-Gymnasium in Wiesbaden . From 1968 to 1978 she studied European art history , classical and Near Eastern archeology , ancient oriental studies, ancient history and classical philology in Frankfurt am Main , Heidelberg and Paris . She did her doctorate in 1978 at the University of Frankfurt with the subject: Investigations into the beginning of Syrian bronze sculpture . From 1980 to 1988 she was a research assistant at the University of Essen.

In 1986 her habilitation took place on the subject: Homer and Mycenae, or Realien and History . In 1988 and 1989 she took on a professorship at Bielefeld University . In 1989 she was appointed Senior Scientific Assistant at the University of Essen. In 1999 she became a teacher for special tasks at the University of Essen . In 2003 she was awarded the title of "Extraordinary Professor".
