Barbara Shelley

Barbara Shelley (born Barbara Kowin ; born February 13, 1932 in London ; † January 4, 2021 ) was a British actress .

Life

Shelley started out as a photo model and got her first small film roles in the early 1950s, initially in Italy. In 1956 she returned to England. She became known in 1957 with the low-budget film The Nights of the Strangler . In the following years she established herself as a star of British horror cinema.

In the classic The Village of the Damned , she played the mother of a boy endowed with supernatural powers. In the 1960s it was used several times in the Hammer films , which specialize in horror scenarios . After that Shelley was still often represented in television productions. Her work includes more than 100 productions, the last time she appeared in a short film in 1992.
