Barbara Weiss

Barbara Weiss (born April 2, 1960 in Schwandorf ; † December 31, 2016 in Berlin ) was a German gallery owner.

Barbara Weiss studied art history and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin . In 1989 she founded her first gallery Galerie Wewerka & Weiss with Michael J. Wewerka on Pariser Strasse in Berlin. In 1992 she founded her own Barbara Weiss gallery on Potsdamer Strasse ; later she resided on Kohlfurter Strasse in Kreuzberg . With her exhibitions and her work, she was considered one of the most important galleries of contemporary art in the Berlin art scene. The gallery represents Collier Schorr , Ayşe Erkmen , Thomas Bayrle and Maria Eichhorn , among others .

She was married to Kasper König .
