Barbara von Brandenburg-Ansbach (born September 24, 1495 in Ansbach , † September 23, 1552 in Karlsbad ) was a princess of Brandenburg-Ansbach and, by marriage, Landgravine von Leuchtenberg .

Life

Barbara was a daughter of Margrave Friedrich the Elder of Brandenburg-Ansbach and Bayreuth (1460-1536) from his marriage to Sophia of Poland (1464-1512), daughter of King Casimir IV of Poland .

She married Landgrave Georg III on September 29, 1510 at the Plassenburg . von Leuchtenberg (1502–1555). In the marriage contract, she was granted a marriage good of 10,000 guilders and a morning gift of 3,000 guilders.

In 1549 she wrote to her numerous relatives to apologize, since her son's marriage to the extremely wealthy Mechthilde von der Marck had been almost rushed, without the relatives' consent and consent. The marriage was initiated by Barbara's brother, Duke Albrecht of Prussia , and it later succeeded in reorganizing the finances of the Landgraviate.

Barbara is buried in the parish church Maria Himmelfahrt in Pfreimd . Her grave slab made of red marble with coat of arms and inscription is in front of the high altar.
