George III (* December 13, 1502 ; † May 21, 1555 ) was Landgrave of Leuchtenberg from 1531 to 1555 .

Georg followed Johann IV as landgrave. After completing his studies, he became Charles V's councilor and chamberlain and took part in the Battle of Pavia (1525) . Because of his employment with Duke Ludwig X and Emperor Karl, he had to provide horses and riders for the war against the Turks . He lent them to Ottheinrich in addition to 14,000 guilders . In 1546 he and Elector Friedrich II signed the Heidelberg Treaty , which regulated privileges and the border between Leuchtenberg and the Electoral Palatinate . Georg's brother Christoph († 1554) commanded a cavalry army under Albrecht Alcibiades . Christoph and Albrecht took out several loans from Landgrave Georg, so Georg was summoned to the Imperial Court of Justice for breach of the peace. He had to give up the rule of Grünsfeld at short notice, pay arson and ransom. His brother Christoph died impoverished in an inn in Regensburg. His second brother Hans was mentally ill and had lived most of the time in Wallerstein with their sister.
