The Barbarossa Bäckerei GmbH & Co. KG is a medium-sized bakery companies from Kaiserslautern . It was founded in 1977 as Pfalzbrot and renamed in 1994.

history

In 1977 Peter-Werner Landry took over an insolvent bakery in Kaiserslautern. The company trading as Pfalzbrot started the production of baked goods for commercial resellers with four employees . In 1985 the first own sales outlets were opened in Kaiserslautern, some of which were supplemented with cafés over time. In 1986 a second production facility was opened in Heusweiler in the Saarland . In 2004, production and administration moved from downtown Kaiserslautern to a new building in the north industrial area.

Some of the company's branches are sales outlets in shopping centers or hypermarkets, and some are independent branches. Often there are catering establishments of various types, e.g. B. classic cafes or bistro-like establishments connected. As of 2018, the company operates 76 of its own branches in the Palatinate and Saarland as well as nine more that are run by franchisees. Around 870 employees produce and sell 150 items in the bread, rolls, pastry and confectionery sectors.

In 2006, the Barbarossa bakery was awarded the Grand Prix for medium- sized companies together with two other companies from the Rhineland-Palatinate / Saarland region .
