Barbatula altayensis is a benthic freshwater fish species of the genus Barbatula from the family of the brook loach (Nemacheilidae). The species was described in 1992 and occurs in the Ulungur in the Xinjang province of China and possibly in Mongolia .

features

The species can be distinguished from other species of the genus Barbatula by the lack of lateral lobes on the lower lip and the shape of the mental lobes, although the latter can also be absent. In contrast to most other Barbatula species, the nostrils are close together. There are 89-105 lateral line pores along the flanks.

Danger

Barbatula altayensis is classified as “ Least Concern ” ( LC = Least Concern ) by the IUCN , as fisheries and water pollution are not a significant threat due to the low population density. However, no information is available on the population density of this species.
