The Barley Sheaf Inn is a historically significant eatery in East Norriton Township , Pennsylvania .
The Barley Sheaf Inn was built by Robert Shannon starting in 1737 on 200 acres of land acquired from Isaac Norris. After Montgomery County was founded in 1784, in the absence of an official building, the county court sat in what was then the Barley Sheaf Hotel , which was run by the grandson of Robert Shannons. This condition lasted until 1787 when a new courthouse was built in Norristown . From 1861 at the latest, the building no longer served as a restaurant, but as a residential building. The Barley Sheaf Inn is currently used as an office block.
It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 10, 1980 as a monument .
