Awards and other titles

In the first bestowal on April 20, 1661 the title Baron Annesley , of Newport Pagnel in the County of Buckingham , was newly created in the Peerage of England for Arthur Annesley, 2nd Viscount Valentia , as a subordinate title to the title Earl, which was also conferred at the same time of Anglesey . In 1660 he had already inherited the title Viscount Valentia from his father , which was created for him in 1622 in the Peerage of Ireland. The Earldom and Barony became extinct on February 14, 1761 on the death of the 6th Earl, the Viscountcy Valentia fell to his relative Arthur Annesley as the 8th Viscount.

In the second bestowal on September 20, 1758, the title of Baron Annesley , of Castlewellan in the County of Down , was bestowed in the Peerage of Ireland to the House of Commons William Annesley . On his father's side, he was a grandson of 1st Viscount Valentia. On November 14, 1766 he was raised in the Peerage of Ireland to Viscount Glerawly , in the County of Fermanagh . His son, the 2nd Viscount, was raised on August 17, 1789 in the Peerage of Ireland to Earl Annesley , of Castlewellan in the County of Down. The earldom was awarded with the special addition that, in the absence of his own legitimate male descendants, it could also be passed on to his younger brother Richard Annesley and his legitimate male descendants. Since the 1st Earl had several illegitimate but no legitimate children, his brother inherited him as 2nd Earl on his death in 1686. Today's holder of the title is Michael Annesley as 12th Earl.

In the third award on May 7, 1917, the title Baron Annesley , of Bletchington in the County of Oxford , in the Peerage of the United Kingdom for Arthur Annesley, 11th Viscount Valentia , was newly created. He had inherited the title Viscount Valentia in 1863. This Barony Annesley expired on the death of his son, the 12th Viscount on October 6, 1949.
