Baron Ashburton , of Ashburton in the County of Devon , is a hereditary British title of nobility that was created twice, first in the Peerage of Great Britain and now in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Awards

The title was first created on April 8, 1782 for the Whig politician Sir John Dunning . With the death of his son in February 1823 the title expired.

On April 10, 1835, the title for the financier and Tory politician Alexander Baring was recreated. He was a cousin of the last holder of the title and belonged to the well-known Baring family of bankers . After the death of his father, he took over the management of the bank and had been a member of the House of Commons for many years .
